          Graham McNamee, an American sports commentator, was born on July 10, 1888, in Washington, D.C.

          He grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, where his father, John McNamee, worked as a lawyer, and his mother, Anne, took care of the home and family while also singing in a church choir. McNamee's early desire to become an opera singer may have been influenced by his mother's singing.

          In 1923, while on his way to the courthouse for his duties as a juror in New York City, McNamee passed by the studio of WEAF radio station and decided to meet the station manager on a whim.
